Our classroom is the new home to a hydroponics station. Thanks to parent Mr. Ray for donating the supplies and being a wonderful resource of knowledge as we start this process in our classroom.

Hydroponics is the process of growing plants in water (hence the "hydro" in the name) instead of in dirt. Our station is a plastic tub with holes in the lid which house four plastic cups. This cups will house the plants and the lava rocks that will support them while the roots dip into the water and nutrients int he bottom tub.

We are growing lettuce plants and just "planted" the seed in rockwool two days ago. Germination began already and we are starting to get seedlings! We can transplant them into the plastic cups in a few more days once the roots get longer.

Thanks to you for helping make the connection to get it started! I'm really excited and many of the kids are, too! Thank you very much for helping make this happen.
